Our hospital was established 26 years ago and specializes in mental health care. It operates
short-term hospitalization, day care, and outpatient services. Currently, in Korea, most mental
hospitals focus on long-term hospitalization, whilst outpatients are largely dealt with by clinics.
Our hospital, within the scope of its limitations, has tried to establish a quality psychiatric
institution, modeled on good practice in Japan. After more than 10 years of effort, we have created a​
unique hospital which has has received favorable attention from Korean health authorities as a
model institution for advanced mental health care. Here I introduce the current day care situation in
our hospital, comparing Korea and Japan, and describing the current state of mental health in Korea.
